About Me

I am a senior Psychology major with minors in Spanish, Neuroscience, and Cognitive Science. I took Photography I and II in high school, and senior year I served as a teaching assistant for Photography I and Graphic Design for the Web classes. In those classes, I had exposure to film cameras and the developing of film, as well as digital photography and editing using primarily Photoshop. I have always loved taking photos, documenting, and sharing them with the people close to me, so I am extremely excited to be enrolled in this class this semester.

Course Goals:

Learn how to use light better - I would love to learn how to use light to my advantage while taking photos.
Find more creative subjects - I want to find unique things to shoot, rather than only what appeals to my eye.
Learn how to edit better with software - I am a novice at editing photos even with some prior experience, so a big goal of mine is to learn how to properly and efficiently edit photos through this class.

Hi Leolina, I enjoyed watching your presentation on Garry Winogrand's work. You went into detail about the different elements Winogrand used in his work such as the use of the rule of thirds and black-and-white images. From the samples shown in your presentation, I can tell he enjoyed spontaneously capturing moments of an individual’s life. This demonstrates that there is beauty in even the smallest things in life.

Hi Leolina! I really love your critiquing photo challenge's Aesthetically Evaluative photo! The lighting and the color scheme do a great job of showing the setting's natural beauty. I think scale in this photo also works really well. Your model being much smaller than the surrounding nature has an almost surreal and interpretive attribute. Overall a very beautiful and interesting image. Great work!

Hi Leolina, I was really drawn by the warm colors and the focus of the plants. By blurring the background, you were able to make the plants the main subject of the photo. I also like that the sun makes the colors of the plants stand out and gives it that summer/warm effect.

My favorite part about this image is how it forces your eyes to try and create detail out of something that lacks it. It also forces your eyes onto the main subject of the image as they are clear and centered. Great work.
